  • Who is William Nsai ? How would you describe yourself ?

I could describe myself as a visual creative digger and as someone who loves  going beyond his limits.  Not only in photography but also as an individual.

  • On a scale from 0 – 10 ; how would you rate your interest in photography ?

I will rate photography at 7 and cinematography at 3.

  • When and how did you develop your current passion for photography ?

I developed my passion for photography  two years ago when I met a model called Kathy Mingele.  She actually activated the photographer in me. What I mean is while working with her I was able to  bring out what I had in mind-creatively speaking- in only a few seconds.

  • How would you describe the impact of photography on your life ?

I think I was made for Photography. It is something I do with so much love because it defines the creative person I am.  There are days when I seriously contemplate cinematography  but I can’t help it “laughs”

  • Underwater photography seems to be your signature move. Do you mind sharing with us how it all started ; as well as describe the creative process ( inconveniences or difficulties encountered perhaps or how fun it actually is for your models to do this )

Shooting underwater is very special for me.  Before my debuts in  photography I was so curious about videos done underwater and as a music video director I had to twist my brain to try and build a waterproof covering to get the camera underwater.  Feel the frustration. After getting into photography  I got familiar with ‘GoPro’ and for me this was heaven. I bought it and it started there. Recently I have moved on to other equipment so you might have observed my evolution. Shooting underwater is a very difficult task  because photography equipment works in the inverse way too. Sometimes it feels like you are in another world or on mars. You actually have to swim and shoot, everything is slow and  this makes it hard to get focus. But as I said earlier I like challenges and when you see the results ;  you can only measure the extent of my satisfaction. The most serious problem for some models is fear but some are really trying and I believe in them.

  • In your opinion , does the African society really validate creatives such as visual artists and photographers ? Or are these occupations still looked upon as hobbies or side jobs ?

I think they are not just ready for it. Sometimes what people don’t understand scares them. However there are also people who encourage me so i keep the faith.

  • What advice would you give my readers ?

If you want to do something do it. Don’t say I will, just do it. Nothing good comes simply; but it takes love and determination to achieve a goal.

Thanks William for taking the time to share your story with us .
